From: Buffalo, NY, USA Great Site! It brought back a lot of memories. When I was in the US Army and stationed in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey (1966) while studying microwave radio equipment repair, I would often use Collins (KWM-2) equipment that they had on base for hams to use. Your site brought back memories!

I didn't have a rig, but I worked with one of the originals who happened to have a 4 letter Call Sign(W1RY)He was very proud of that. I still listen on my Internet connection.I have grandkids in Toronto.

E-Mail: <kraynakjon@aol.com>My father, john kraynak, who lived in Luzerne County, outside Wilkes Barre, Pa, which is approximately 300 miles east of Pittsburgh, listened to the Pirates games at night, starting in the early 40's =+, and never missed a game unless the reception was not good, which was common in our area. The sounds of Bob Prince every evening at our house was a tradition for many years. My father and my Uncle Jack Milko, who was also a Pirates fan, would gather near the radio at nite and listen to KDKA before the game and long after the games were over. Names like John Signa, were a household word in our house for many years. We visited Pittsburgh almost every year to see a Pirates game from the 1960's in Forbes Feild and later in Three Rivers Stadium. My dad and Uncle Jack are no longer with us but the memories we have of those summer nights of Pirates games on KDKA with Bob Prince are priceless. Thanks for the memories, Jon Kraynak

i was licensed as a novice (wd5dvn) in 1977. i soon met w5sg (bill), a devoute collins nut. he sold me a nice 75a4 receiver and located a nice kws1 transmitter in kerrville, tx. which i bought. i think i was the only novice in the u.s. that was on the air with such a fabulous rig. but after a few years on the air i tired of aligning the xmtr with the rcvr every time i heard a signal. i then purchased a 75s1, 32s1, 30l1 and 312-b4 (all w.e.) station which i used till 1983. i sold the kws1 to wa3sdk and the 75a4 to someone in el paso. i still kick myself every time i think about letting loose of that old rig. the s line became a dust collector so finally sold it to a re-seller from midland, tx. oh well, live and learn but i'm sure i'll never be able to afford another kws1 and 75a4 again. they were super and i can at least say i at one time owned such a fabulous rig. kick...kick....kick

I met Fred at the ARRL Convention in Toronto in 1977. I was just newly licenced, and Fred had some words of wisdom for me as I was trying to decide on the purchase of my first rig. I didnt know who he was at the time, but I was impressed with his knowledge and ability. It was only later that Dave VE3GCE(SK) who I met at the bar informed me as to who Fred was that I realized I had been helped by one of the foremost men in the Canadian amateur radio community.Through the years I came to know Fred well, I was a member of the Waterloo ARC for a while and we visited the museum several times during my residence in the Simcoe area. Fred is missed in the amateur circles, but certainly remembered forever for his generosity and kindness.73's my friendCarl

An excellent site and feature of the Hornby Tx. So few people get the opportunity to see those behind the scenes responsible for the radio stations they listen too everyday. Such as Roberto Vissani and Buddy.B.Kennedy Tower Tech Canada.

An elderly lady in Meaford is cleaning out some of her late husband's belongings and has a KW (Dartford, England) tube type transmitter receiver. I have not been able to find out much about this product on the net so as to help her arrive at a fair value when she disposes of it. It has a power supply and, apparently is in operating condition. Any suggestions?A local "Ham" suggested your site. I have enjoyed the visit. Jim Hepple

Good site, but I do believe you should give credit where credit is due and give some info about the true father and inventor of radio, Nikola Tesla. Sure, Fessenden and Marconi may have been experimenting with radio, but were only working out what Tesla was already capable of doing. Radio would still have come about without Marconi and Fessenden, but not without Nikola Tesla.
